Ayodhya Verdict: Hindus get ownership of disputed land, Muslims to get alternate site

The ownership of the disputed land in Ayodhya will be given to Hindus while Muslims will be allotted an alternate land in a landmark judgement by the Supreme Court on November 9.

The unanimous decision by the five-judge SC Bench said it was clear that Babri Masjid was not built on vacant land and that there was a structure beneath, but it could not be said for sure that it was a specified temple.

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board, while respecting the decision, said in a press conference after the verdict that it was not satisfied with the judgement and will seek a legal route to see whether they will file a judicial review or not.

Here are some of the keen points that were delivered in the verdict:
–The Shia claim was rejected unanimously
-The Nirmohi Akhar claim was rejected, however, they will have a role to play in the trust that will soon be formed
– Hindus to get land subject to conditions
– The central government will frame a scheme
– The inner courtyard will be handed over to the trust
– A suitable plot of land measuring 5 acres shall be given to Sunni Waqf Board
– Centre must set a trust with the board of trustees within 3 months.
The Supreme Court verdict came nine years after the 2:1 judgment of the Allahabad High Court which ordered a three-way division of the disputed 2.77 acres of land between the three parties — Ram Lalla, Sunni Waqf Board and the Nirmohi Akhara.

The three judges had agreed that Hindus should get the portion under the central dome. The Allahabad High Court judgment was challenged in the Supreme Court, which ordered a stay on it on May 9, 2011.
